Dewberry Camellia

A 26th anniversary gift traditionally has no assigned material, which leaves the door open for something more original than tradition usually allows, and this Dewberry Camellia walks straight through it. The color sits somewhere between purple and berry, a shade real camellias rarely produce naturally without significant horticultural intervention. Every petal is shaped by hand at Chive Ceramics Studio, thinned at the outer edge and left slightly heavier near the center so the bloom keeps its weight without ever looking stiff on the wall. It mounts flat to the wall with a single screw, with no soil, sunlight, or watering schedule required to keep it exactly as it arrived on day one. Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens has maintained camellias within its historic conservatory for generations, a fitting anchor for a flower this specific in color. Twenty-six years in, most couples have already received every traditional gift twice over. This one is neither traditional nor a repeat of anything.
